Here Is How Long Does Your Sunburn Would Last?

A sunburn happens due to ultraviolet rays from the sun harming your skin, resulting in skin damage. How long a sunburn lasts depends on the severity of the burn. The sunburn can be mild, moderate, or severe.

Mild sunburns can last from three to five days; you may experience minor pain and some redness, your skin will peel off during this time.

A moderate sunburn involves much more pain than a mild sunburn. Your skin will swell and turn red and may take a week or more to heal.

Severe sunburns are extremely painful; you may experience blisters and constant pain. We recommend that you visit a doctor and take as much rest as possible. It may take fifteen to twenty days for severe sunburns to heal.

Several other factors determine how long does sunburn last. The first factor is your skin colour; those with fairer skin may suffer from sunburn for a few days longer than someone with darker skin.

The second factor is the time of the day when your skin was exposed to sunlight. Usually, 9 am to 3 pm is the time of the day when exposure to sunlight is most damaging for your skin.

Another factor is the location. Places situated near the equator are hot and dry. Exposure to sunlight at such places may harm your skin heavily.

The redness that we experience due to sunburn usually shows up six hours after the skin has been exposed to ultraviolet rays. The redness may last for a couple of days, depending on how severe the sunburn is.

In the case of severe sunburn, you may experience your skin swell. The swelling may take two to three days to go away. How long does sunburn last and how long will it take for the pain to go away depends on various factors. Your doctor may prescribe a few medications to help with the inflammation, pain, and swelling.
